Epicentre was 50 km west of Puerto Cabello (population ~200k) and 175km west of Caracas and was succeeded by a magnitude 7.5 earthquake 39 seconds later. Severe damage to homes and infrastructure has been reported in Caracas and elsewhere. At least 164 people have been killed and many more injured.
